Hey y’all \u2014 Trung here. I’m excited to finally share a project I’ve been working on for a while. I call it MTG: OFFLINE<\/a><\/strong>.

The goal of this project is to vitalize Magic: the Gathering<\/em> in areas with plenty of players but little to no organized play. And if you\u2019re thinking that sounds like Ho Chi Minh City \u2014 you\u2019re right! (I also think so and I’m always right).

So what better place to start than the city we all live and play in, HCMC. After playing here for a year, I’ve learned two big things:

1. Players want better prizes<\/strong>
2. Magic is expensive<\/strong>

So to achieve my goal and make Magic<\/em> happen here, I must tackle both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prizes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This one\u2019s obvious. If I can get booster packs below retail price, we can easily run events where every player leaves with more value than their entry fee<\/strong>.

The challenge? All official Magic<\/em> products are first imported into Thailand before they are resold to stores in Vietnam. This means even local stores are already paying close to MSRP. I\u2019ve managed to get us into official distribution channels, but I\u2019ll need to pay for some packs myself to \u201cgrease the wheels\u201d \u2014 problem half-solved.

But packs aren’t the only prize up for grabs! There shall be GLORY<\/strong>.

Starting with the release Spiderman: the Gathering\u2122 <\/em> on September 26, we will launch a Seasonal Leaderboard<\/a>. Points will be awarded for attendance and match wins. At Season\u2019s end, we will give out prizes, hold a Season Championship<\/strong>, and a new season of Magic<\/em> begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This one was harder. Constructed formats like Standard or Modern can be brutal \u2014 even the cheapest Tier 1 deck can run you a few hundred bucks. And if you order off of foreign sites (like most players here have to), that price doubles.
